When goods shift, operational productivity and safety suffer. A pallet that slides during braking, an operator who loses footing when unloading, or a ramp that is too smooth can lead to damage, downtime and claims. For this reason, anti-slip truck flooring should be selected as part of the truck body design, not as a secondary finish.
Anti-slip truck flooring: FW vs HEXA — 2026 comparison
The two most frequently requested surfaces are FW, with a wire mesh texture, and HEXA, with a hexagonal pattern. Both are made from plywood with phenolic film to improve traction. The FW HEXA difference is apparent in the pattern, cleaning and final appearance of each platform.

Why do you need anti-slip board in truck bodywork?
A truck body floor is exposed to braking, turning, vibration and changes in weight. It must also withstand moisture, dirt from wheels and regular cleaning. Anti-slip truck flooring provides more stable footing during loading and unloading.
The surface does not replace proper load securing: straps, bars, rails and loading procedures remain essential. Its value lies in adding control against slipping within a well-designed system.
At KEFI BOSQUE GROUP, we supply plywood options for truck bodies in thicknesses from 6.5 to 30 mm and formats up to 1525 × 3050 mm. For flooring, we recommend assessing the support layout, load weight, trolley wheel diameter and fixing method before deciding on the thickness and finish. You can view all references in the transport board catalogue.
FW (Film Wire): anti-slip wire mesh surface
FW, also called film wire, identifies a phenolic board whose working face has a wire mesh embossing. Visually, the texture is made up of intersecting lines that increase contact with soles, wheels and packaging. It is a common solution for loading platforms, trailers, ramps and van floors that require a grippy surface.
How it is made
The panel is made from a plywood core of wood veneers bonded for humid conditions. A phenolic film with a wire mesh pattern is applied to the working face; the reverse face is usually smooth, depending on the reference. Thickness, edge sealing, installation and maintenance also determine the outcome.
In the KEFI range, you can review FW anti-slip wire mesh plywood. For a truck body project, request the technical data sheet and availability for the specific thickness and format before finalising the cutting list.
Grip and resistance
The FW wire mesh creates a pronounced texture that provides better footing than a smooth face. It is useful when operators step onto the vehicle or wheeled loads are handled. Actual grip varies with moisture, dirt, footwear, tyres and the condition of the film; do not claim a fixed level without testing.
Wear resistance depends on traffic and dragging. Avoid fork impacts, unprotected dragged loads and incompatible cleaners. Inspect joints, screws, edges and cut-outs.
Ideal applications
- Truck floors for distribution and general transport.
- Trailers for equipment, light machinery and palletised goods.
- Ramps and access areas where additional footing is required.
- Logistics vans with frequent operator traffic.
- Work platforms where cleaning can be adapted to a textured surface.
HEXA: hexagonal anti-slip pattern
HEXA is a hexagonal anti-slip surface with hexagon-shaped embossing. Like FW, it is designed to add texture to the board’s running surface. Its regular pattern offers a different aesthetic and can be a particularly attractive alternative where the visible platform forms part of the vehicle’s presentation.
How it is made
The process starts with a plywood base with one face coated in textured phenolic film. In HEXA, the embossing takes a hexagonal form. Specify the complete reference: thickness, format, construction and reverse face all change the outcome of the project.
See the HEXA range for truck bodies and platforms to assess this solution. For interiors with different finish requirements, you can also combine the project with smooth phenolic FF on side walls or ceilings.
Grip and resistance
The hexagonal pattern provides contact points and a texture designed for grip. Like FW, it should be assessed with actual loads, moisture, cleaning, incline and load securing conditions. Request a sample for ramps, livestock vehicles or areas with demanding hygiene requirements.
The HEXA pattern helps to visually identify walkways. Resistance will depend on avoiding aggressive dragging, repairing cuts, and protecting edges, drilled holes and machined areas.
Ideal applications
- Trailer platforms where a recognisable anti-slip texture is required.
- Van floors with varied loads and a need for a smart appearance.
- Load areas visible to clients, demonstrations or technical service.
- Intermodal equipment and containers with a defined cleaning plan.
- Projects seeking to coordinate anti-slip finishes with interior panels.
FW vs HEXA technical comparison
The table summarises the FW HEXA difference for an initial selection. The values do not replace validation with a sample or the data sheet for the specific supplied product.
| Criterion | FW (wire mesh) | HEXA (hexagonal) | What to decide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Texture | Crossed wire mesh embossing | Hexagon embossing | The preferred pattern and expected contact |
| Grip | Pronounced texture for anti-slip use | Anti-slip texture with a regular pattern | Test with actual footwear, wheels and loads |
| Wear resistance | Depends on film, thickness and use | Depends on film, thickness and use | Avoid dragging and seal cuts |
| Cleaning | The wire mesh embossing requires attention in grooves | The pattern requires an adapted routine | Assess water, dirt and protocol |
| Price | Depends on format, thickness and order | Depends on format, thickness and order | Compare by m² and by board |
| Optimum application | Intensive use, ramps and functional floors | Visible platforms and load floors | Priority between texture and aesthetics |
| Thicknesses | 6.5–30 mm depending on reference | 6.5–30 mm depending on reference | Calculate supports and point loads |
Both ranges benefit from professional installation. Allow suitable installation gaps, fix the board according to the truck body design, and protect every newly cut edge. The best anti-slip truck flooring loses value if joints are exposed to water or if fixing points damage the film without sealing.
Which should you choose for your truck body?
Livestock and live-animal trucks
Grip and cleaning are inseparable criteria. FW or HEXA may be suitable for the platform or ramp, but assess the gradient, drainage, structure and applicable requirements. Request a sample and validate the solution with the bodybuilder.
General logistics vans
For palletised loads and distribution, FW is a functional choice when wire mesh is prioritised. HEXA is an alternative if a distinctive visual pattern is sought. On side walls, FF melamine can be used; for coordinated flooring, see FW/HEXA melamine boards.
Refrigerated bodies
In a refrigerated body, the decisive criterion is usually the balance between grip, cleaning and moisture control. Do not select the texture without considering cleaning products and drainage. Sealed joints and edges matter as much as the anti-slip face.
Intermodal containers
The choice must withstand use involving load securing, vibration and rotating loads. Long formats reduce joints in some designs. Where the surface needs to be smooth for walls or finished areas, FF can complement the anti-slip floor. Also see the guide to phenolic plywood for truck bodies to choose the thickness and format.
Indicative prices
The price of anti-slip truck flooring should be compared by specification, not only per unit. As an indicative reference, excluding VAT, an anti-slip birch board may fall approximately within the following ranges. The final cost depends on finish, quantity, format, transport and availability in Mataró or at the destination.

For a useful quotation, provide internal dimensions, number of vehicles, type of load, distance between supports, desired finish and delivery location. This enables the cutting list to be calculated and alternatives to be compared by installed cost, not only purchase price.
Common mistakes when buying anti-slip board
- Choosing by texture without defining the load. Embossing does not compensate for insufficient thickness or an excessive span.
- Confusing moisture resistance with permanent immersion. Edges, drilled holes and joints must be sealed.
- Not requesting a sample. A pattern may look good in a photograph but not suit actual cleaning requirements or tyres.
- Comparing boards by unit. Review m², format, thickness, surface, documentation and wastage.
- Forgetting load securing. An anti-slip board does not replace straps, anchor points or safe load distribution.
- Ignoring maintenance. Clean without damaging the film and inspect wear areas and fixings.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Which is better, FW or HEXA?
A: There is no universal answer. FW offers a wire mesh texture and HEXA a hexagonal pattern; both are anti-slip finishes. Choose according to the load, cleaning, area of use and finish preference, ideally after reviewing a sample.
Q: What is the FW HEXA difference in a truck floor?
A: The main difference lies in the embossed pattern and how it integrates with the use and maintenance of the platform. Final performance also depends on thickness, installation, moisture and wear.
Q: What thickness of anti-slip truck board do I need?
A: For light vans, 12–15 mm is often considered; for trucks and trailers, 15–21 mm; and for demanding platforms, 24–30 mm. The bodybuilder should confirm the calculation based on supports and point loads.
Q: What is the price of anti-slip truck flooring?
A: An indicative range may start at 39.79 €/sheet (9 mm F/W) and reach 116.95 €/sheet (30 mm F/W) in 1250×2500 mm format, DDP Valencia. Request a quotation excluding VAT for your specific size and volume.
Q: Can an FW or HEXA board be cleaned with water?
A: The surface requires an adapted cleaning routine, but water must not penetrate the edges, drilled holes or joints. Follow the product instructions and seal cuts during installation.
Q: Do you hold stock of FW HEXA plywood in Barcelona?
A: KEFI BOSQUE GROUP operates from Mataró, Barcelona, with more than 300 m³ of plywood in stock. First confirm availability of the finish, thickness and format you require.
